Diesel and adidas Originals Join Creative Forces to Introduce a Limited Edition Sneaker Series

adidas Originals and Diesel, two global lifestyle brands that share common values of authenticity, self-expression and creativity for the fashion forward, have come together again in the spirit of unconstrained exploration and collaboration to introduce a limited edition sneaker series.

After the two brands joined forces for their special denim collaboration in 2008 a new idea was born to develop an exclusive Diesel/adidas Originals sneaker collection: five classic adidas footwear styles re-designed by Diesel, launching January 20th 2011, with only 10,000 pairs available globally.

Stefano Rosso, responsible for Strategic Brand Alliances of Diesel (and son of the company''s founder):

"I am a huge fan of adidas, they inspire me and they were my myth when I was growing up. After the amazing denim collaboration, when Diesel''s know-how was infused by adidas'' spirit, we are now starting a new chapter of the partnership: the heritage of the two brands will come together applying our spirit on adidas classic kicks!"

Spokesperson for adidas commented:
"Our two brands continue to share a great relationship built on our mutual respect and admiration for each others business and expertise. Following the recent collaboration in which we used the Diesel expertise in denim to create a new segment for Originals, this new sneaker project allowed us to approach the product creation in reverse. Working together with Diesel always results in a positive sharing of ideas. Their perspective makes for great products and gives us a better understanding on how others would interpret our collection."

The carefully selected iconic adidas silhouettes build on the inspiration deriving from the combination of the most recognizable and exclusive details from both brands.

  • FORUM MID DIESEL LEA: Punk meets Rock''n''Roll.

  • FORUM MID DIESEL TXT: Including details from the latest Diesel Fiat 500 collaboration - reflector touches on stitching, the strap and the lace eyelets, plus the Mohican Head on the tongue.

  • ZX 700 DIESEL: Take a classic running shoe and infuse it with Diesel fashion collection materials and colours...and wear it for successful living

STAN SMITH SPECIAL: Two stories are being fused: Starting from 1971, the Stan Smith, adidas'' tennis shoe is being reinterpreted by 1978 born Diesel - a puzzle-like street/denim design. Patches are made out of camel leather.

  • STAN SMITH 80''S DIESEL (Studs with Black & White Colour Options): Metal studs allover.

    • Diesel sneakers are "not made for running"....but you can cruise to Diesel Stores or to diesel.com starting January 20th, 2011 to be the first successful owner of one of 10,000 Diesel/adidas limited editions. The shoes will also be available at the Diesel Montreal (2114 de la Montagne) and Diesel Toronto (92 Yorkville) store locations.

      Better late than never…

Sometimes on the net when you go an idle browsing spree, or even flipping through magazines, you come across items that you truly covet. Items that makes you go ‘I just gotta have this no matter what’.

Yet, for some reason or another, you never did follow-through your desires. The self assuaging reason that you came up for yourself is that maybe the moment has passed (although still deep down inside you would still jump on them if the opportunity ever comes knocking).

Well , what would happen if the opportunity does indeed presents itself? Would you still take the leap and faith, whip out your credit card and finally fulfil your long unquenched desires? After all, if it was an impressive instant, love-at-first-sight surge you felt when you first laid your eyes on them way way back, isn't the feeling still true now as it is then?

That is precisely what happened to me when stumbling across these two particular DIESEL items.

First, is the Diesel DZ4160 Freak of Nature Watch.

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you! There is photo-shopping involved here. This is an actual watch. Dubbed Frankenstein’s  timepiece in certain quarters, due to looking like a cross-breeding of two entirely different watches into one.

Half of the watch face features an oval steel case with a multi-coloured chronograph dials and the remaining half has a square gold case with standard watch dial and genuine leather strap. The result is something that you either love OR hate: there is no in-between.

I stumbled upon this monster while making a slight detour from my usual shopping trek in Orchard Road last Xmas. It was found in all places, at the humble OG Shopping mall (lessen to self; never ever under-estimate any mall, no mater how un-posh it is. You really never know what's in-store until you go into the store).

The price was a bit steep, even more so when I have busted my supposed budget by then. Even though there was a 20% discount, OG has sneakily made the savings in the form of in-store cash rebates. So you still end up paying full price for the item… and need to purchase other things to utilise the rebate! Luckily for me I managed to find a couple of nice DKNY undies (you can never have too many of these), paying just SGD2 on-top. In any case, the 7% GST refund did manage to lessen the blow on the wallet :P.

Second is the Nizza Hi Adidas Originals // 55DSL X XV/55 Limited Edition Sneakers.

      limited-edition-2

55DSL and adidas Originals have collaborated to create a special limited edition shoe called XV/55 in celebration of the street wear brand’s 15th anniversary. A combination of 55DSL’s trademark colours and angel logo with the slick styling and technical expertise of adidas Originals’ iconic Nizza model makes this sneaker the ultimate collector’s item.

I have been meaning to check these out during my Xmas holidays in Singapore at 55DSL’s official stockist ‘Actually’ in Seah Street. But somehow didn't quite manage to make it there. Online, i have been eying these babies for a while now on Ssense.com, but didn't take the plunge until the site offered a 30% boxing day discount, which just about offsets the cost of shipping.

So there, at last my two elusive conquests now sits proudly on wrist and feet. Like the always say: better late than never… otherwise a lifetime of regret.

      Adidas Originals Denim by Diesel

Remember the Adidas+Diesel collaboration I mentioned last year? Well, here are some sneak previews of several models of the highly anticipated jeans. From the looks of it, it is indeed a winning combo. I will most definitely be making a stopover at the Adidas Originals store in Singapore this coming February.

      Great minds think alike

I'm in seventh heaven right now! Two of my all time favourite brands are joining forces to create an exclusive denim collection, proving that once again, great minds do think alike. Hopefully these jeans will make it to our shores next year at the adidas Originals stors in KLCC and Pavillion Kuala Lumpur.

adidas Originals Spring/Summer 2008: Introducing adidas Originals Denim by Diesel
      On February 1, 2008

Two iconic lifestyle brands, adidas Originals and Diesel will launch a landmark product collaboration – adidas Originals Denim by Diesel. The first denim collection to result from this four year relationship is a collectible line of extremely detailed, premium denim for true jeans lovers, designed in conjunction with the adidas Originals and the Diesel Creative Team, latter headed by Creative Director Wilbert Das.

Two male and two female models presented in four different washes will be available exclusively at adidas Originals stores all around the world starting spring/summer 2008. Prices range from 160 Euro for the female adi-rohnary model up to 210 Euro for the male adi-viker model. Representing the long-term partnership of the two brands, the range is recognizable by the adidas Originals Trefoil and the Diesel co-branding.

adidas Originals and Diesel – two global brands that stand for authenticity, self-expression and creativity for the fashion forward - have come together in the spirit of unconstrained exploration and collaboration.

“I am an adidas fan myself and I am very excited about this project! It is the first time that Diesel creates a denim line with another lifestyle brand and we wanted to do it with adidas that shares with us the same fresh attitude and care for high quality and creativity” said Renzo Rosso, President of Diesel. “This is the first time that we have entered into a collaboration of this kind with adidas Originals, and we would only do this with the right partner who brings our consumer something truly unique,” explained Hermann Deininger, CMO adidas Sport Style Division. "Now when a consumer walks into one of our stores, we can offer them a complete look - from a track top to jeans to a pair of sneakers.”

The unconditional approach to individuality and expression shared by both brands is presented in the first Originals Denim by Diesel collection and the below the line campaign to celebrate both authenticity and originality.

The general concept behind the different campaign executions is the expression of “83 original ways to successfully waste your time” by presenting playful, inspiring ways to encourage open, uninhibited self-expression and celebrate originality. 83 inspirations is just a start to invite everybody to share ideas in adidas Originals stores, online and through events. Because staying open to others is what being unconstrained is all about.
